Vijaya Bank → Bank of Baroda: what happened to the IFSC codes
Vijaya Bank merged into Bank of Baroda on 2019-04-01. Our archive of every release of the RBI branch list since February 2016 holds 2,301 Vijaya Bank IFSC codes. For 10 of them (under 1%) we can name the Bank of Baroda code that replaced it and show the evidence. For the other 2,291 we do not name one, because nothing we hold ties them to a single live branch — and we do not guess.

When the old codes left the RBI list
The merger took effect on 2019-04-01, but that is not the day the old codes stopped appearing in the RBI branch list. 2,301 of the Vijaya Bank codes were still in the list in release 1.6.0, published 2021-07-12 — 27 months after the merger. They are absent from release 1.6.1 (2021-08-06) onward.
The date a bank actually switched its old codes off is usually different again, and for most mergers it was announced by the bank, not the RBI. Merger dates against switch-off dates, with sources.
How we know which new code replaced an old one
- 10 codes by an exact address match: the address on the old record is, character for character, the address of a live Bank of Baroda branch.
Where none of these holds, we name no replacement. How we decide a replacement. Confirm any replacement code with your bank before you send money.
