ING Vysya Bank → Kotak Mahindra Bank: what happened to the IFSC codes

ING Vysya Bank merged into Kotak Mahindra Bank on 2015-04-01. Our archive of every release of the RBI branch list since February 2016 holds 653 ING Vysya Bank IFSC codes. For 243 of them (37%) we can name the Kotak Mahindra Bank code that replaced it and show the evidence. For the other 410 we do not name one, because nothing we hold ties them to a single live branch — and we do not guess.

When the old codes left the RBI list

The merger took effect on 2015-04-01, but that is not the day the old codes stopped appearing in the RBI branch list. 653 of the ING Vysya Bank codes were still in the list in release 0.1.6, published 2016-10-12 — 18 months after the merger. They are absent from release 0.1.7 (2016-11-03) onward.

The date a bank actually switched its old codes off is usually different again, and for most mergers it was announced by the bank, not the RBI. Merger dates against switch-off dates, with sources.

How we know which new code replaced an old one

• 243 codes by an exact address match: the address on the old record is, character for character, the address of a live Kotak Mahindra Bank branch.

Where none of these holds, we name no replacement. How we decide a replacement. Confirm any replacement code with your bank before you send money.

By state

Old code to new code

Every ING Vysya Bank code for which we name a replacement, by state. Open a state to see its codes. The new code links to that branch's record.

The 410 codes without a named replacement each still have a page here with the release they were last listed in and the Kotak Mahindra Bank branches in the same city. Type the code into the box above to find it.
