State Bank of Travancore → State Bank of India: what happened to the IFSC codes

State Bank of Travancore merged into State Bank of India on 2017-04-01. Our archive of every release of the RBI branch list since February 2016 holds 1,227 State Bank of Travancore IFSC codes. For 379 of them (30%) we can name the State Bank of India code that replaced it and show the evidence. For the other 848 we do not name one, because nothing we hold ties them to a single live branch — and we do not guess.

When the old codes left the RBI list

The merger took effect on 2017-04-01, but that is not the day the old codes stopped appearing in the RBI branch list. 1,221 of the State Bank of Travancore codes were still in the list in release 1.0.10, published 2017-10-10 — 6 months after the merger. They are absent from release 1.0.11 (2017-11-20) onward.

6 codes had already left the list by the merger date, so their withdrawal was not the merger itself.

The date a bank actually switched its old codes off is usually different again, and for most mergers it was announced by the bank, not the RBI. Merger dates against switch-off dates, with sources.

How we know which new code replaced an old one

• 379 codes by an exact address match: the address on the old record is, character for character, the address of a live State Bank of India branch.

Where none of these holds, we name no replacement. How we decide a replacement. Confirm any replacement code with your bank before you send money.

By state

Old code to new code

Every State Bank of Travancore code for which we name a replacement, by state. Open a state to see its codes. The new code links to that branch's record.

The 848 codes without a named replacement each still have a page here with the release they were last listed in and the State Bank of India branches in the same city. Type the code into the box above to find it.
