Allahabad Bank → Indian Bank: what happened to the IFSC codes
Allahabad Bank merged into Indian Bank on 2020-04-01. Our archive of every release of the RBI branch list since February 2016 holds 3,964 Allahabad Bank IFSC codes. For 1 of them (under 1%) we can name the Indian Bank code that replaced it and show the evidence. For the other 3,963 we do not name one, because nothing we hold ties them to a single live branch — and we do not guess.

When the old codes left the RBI list
The merger took effect on 2020-04-01, but that is not the day the old codes stopped appearing in the RBI branch list. 3,225 of the Allahabad Bank codes were still in the list in release 1.6.0, published 2021-07-12 — 15 months after the merger. They are absent from release 1.6.1 (2021-08-06) onward. The other 33 codes left the list in other releases.
706 codes had already left the list by the merger date, so their withdrawal was not the merger itself.
The date a bank actually switched its old codes off is usually different again, and for most mergers it was announced by the bank, not the RBI. Merger dates against switch-off dates, with sources.
How we know which new code replaced an old one
- 1 code by an exact address match: the address on the old record is, character for character, the address of a live Indian Bank branch.
Where none of these holds, we name no replacement. How we decide a replacement. Confirm any replacement code with your bank before you send money.
